Twitter is undergoing a major rebranding with its iconic bird logo to be replaced with a “X” later today. The logo change is not a surprise as Elon Musk has been calling Twitter “X Corp” since he acquired the platform in September 2022 for a massive $44 Billion.
His decision comes just weeks after Meta’s boss Mark Zuckerberg launched Threads, a Twitter-like platform, to take on the bird. On Sunday, Musk shared a short video of a flickering “X” and confirmed in a Twitter Spaces audio chat that the logo will change. “Yeah, we’re cutting the Twitter logo off the building with blow torches.”

This will be Twitter’s latest big change, a shift from bird imagery to that of a capital letter. “And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” Musk wrote. Linda Yaccarino, Twitter CEO, said the branding change will introduce a major pivot for the microblogging platform. She said it will become a marketplace for goods, services, and opportunities, powered by artificial intelligence.
Yaccarino acknowledged that it’s an exceptionally rare thing. “Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square. X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.” Through X Corp, Musk wants to reflect his vision to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat.
Moreover, the logo change is part of Twitter’s strategy to bring in advertisers and revenue. It should be noted the platform has been on the downturn because of policy change, leaving advertising no alternative but to leave. Advertisers, which stuck around, cut back on spending.
Overall, Twitter has around 200 million daily active users and remains the number one platform for the exchange of ideas and opinions, but lately has been hit by hateful, violent, and inaccurate posts.
