Did that just pop! Giant packs of Butterkist popcorn are popping up on digital billboards across the UK.
The KP Snacks-owned brand’s latest campaign “Go Grab the Butterkist” is transfixing viewers with a microwave slowly cooking the enjoyable snack, complete with full audio. It features that familiar microwave ‘ping’ to show that the popcorn is ready. The billboard shows an animated microwave cooking popcorn, counting down the two and a half minutes it takes to cook.

Ben Theobald, brand manager at Butterkist, said they love the disruptive nature of the creative and hijacked a standard 48-sheet media format in a creative way. Butterkist has also added customized microwave settings, including Comedy Roasts, Grilled Celebs, Reheated Debates, and Steamy Dramas. The fun campaign, created by St Luke’s, will run for two weeks, appearing on 48 outdoor sites in Leeds, London, Edinburgh, New Castle, Manchester, Milton, Glasgow, Sheffield, Keynes, Derby, Gateshead, and Dartford.
The latest campaign follows Butterkist’s reactive ads in response to moments of cultural drama, including the Partygate in Downing Street and the Rooney vs. Vardy court case
