India Shines at Cannes Lions 2023 Day 2: A Roundup of the Award-Winning Campaigns

India went on a winning streak by bagging six awards on day two of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2023. The awards ranging from Gold to Bronze were won by FCB India, FCB Kinnect, FCB Interface, Leo Burnett, DDB Mudra Group, and Dentsu Creative. Let’s take a closer look at the campaigns that made India proud at Cannes Lions 2023 and also see the other main wins that made headlines on the second day at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Untangling the Politics of Hair Campaign by FCB India Wins Gold

FCB India’s Untangling the Politics of Hair campaign won the gold medal in the Industry Craft – Outdoor category. The campaign was produced for STIR and aimed to bring attention to the Mahsa Amini protests in Iran after the custodial death of 22-year-old Amini. The campaign featured photographs created and conceived by FCB India’s Rohit Chawla and Swati Bhattacharya.

FCB Kinnect, FCB Interface, and Leo Burnett Win Silver Medals

FCB Kinnect and FCB Interface won two silver medals in the Entertainment category. Their Chatpat campaign for SOS Children’s Villages was recognized under the Influencer and Co-Creation sub-category, while Navneet’s Tr. for Teacher campaign was recognized under the Social Behaviour and Cultural Insight sub-category. Leo Burnett won a silver medal in the Industry Lions for Sport’s Live Experience category for Airtel‘s 175 Replayed campaign.

Bronze Medals for Dentsu Creative and DDB Mudra Group

Dentsu Creative won a bronze medal in the Design’s Promotional Print Media category for Vendantu‘s The Everything Book campaign. The campaign aimed to bridge the education gap in rural India by providing high-speed internet access.

DDB Mudra Group won a bronze medal in the Entertainment Lions for Gaming category for Battleground Mobile India’s (BGMI) Machinegun Mouth campaign.

Japan Wins First Grand Prix

Apart from India’s six wins, Japan won its first Grand Prix at Cannes Lions 2023 on day two for ‘My Japan Railway’, a campaign for JR GROUP, i.e, for the Japan Railway 150th Anniversary Campaign, by Dentsu Inc. Tokyo.

In the Design Lions, The Grand Prix went to ‘ADLaM – an Alphabet to Preserve a Culture’ for Microsoft, by McCann New York, which made the ADLaM Display.

Wieden+Kennedy Portland won two Grand Prix in the Entertainment Lions and Entertainment Lions for Gaming category of Awards for ‘Clash from The Past’, for Clash of Clans.

In the Digital Craft Lions, The Grand Prix was presented to ‘Never Done Evolving Feat Serena’ for Nike, by AKQA, Sao Paulo / Portland / Melbourne.

 

In the Entertainment Lions for Music, two Grands Prix were awarded to ‘Beautiful Life’, for Michael Kiwanuka, by SMUGGLER, London /Michael Kiwanuka, Los Angeles and Apple, Cupertino for their work, ‘The Greatest’.

For Entertainment Lions for Sport, the Grand Prix went to ‘Dreamcaster’, for Michelob ULTRA, by FCB New York.

Kevin Hart Honored as Entertainment Person of the Year

Entrepreneur, entertainer, and Hartbeat founder and chairman Kevin Hart was presented with the Cannes Lions Entertainment Person of the Year Award live on stage. Hart is known for his work in film, television, and comedy, and he has been a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry.
