Vodafone Ghana will be undergoing a rebrand and will be called Telecel Ghana. This comes after Telecel Group acquired majority shares in Vodafone Ghana in February 2023.
The African telecommunications service provider obtained all the necessary regulatory approvals, including the agreement of the Government of Ghana, as a minority shareholder. This acquisition is highlighted as a major change for the Ghanaian telecommunications company since 2008.
As such, the rebranding of Vodafone Ghana is not surprising. The rebranding coincides with MTN Ghana’s designated as a Significant Market Power (SMP). It’s aimed at fostering a more equitable and efficient playing field for all industry participants.
The SMP levels the playing field. It restricts the company’s ability to regulate its profit margin, manipulate tariffs, and raise barriers for possible new participants in the market.
