Esah Tea Launches World’s First Microplastic-free Cotton Tea Bags

A tea brand from Assam, India Esah Tea has launched the world’s first microplastic-free cotton tea bags which are 100 percent chemical-free, biodegradable and homemade. It reflects the brand’s commitment to sustainability and customer health.

Esha Tea’s sustainable tea bags launch followers McGill University’s findings that conventional tea bags release 11.9 billion harmful microplastic particles per cup. These minuscule particles pose significant health risks when ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Researchers warn that microplastics can cause cellular damage, disrupt the immune system, and lead to reproductive issues, etc.

Bijit Sarma, Founder and CEO of Esah Tea, says Esah Tea is more than just a purveyor of fine tea. “We’re custodians of a centuries-old rich tea heritage. Introducing our microplastic-free cotton tea bags is not merely a product launch,” he explained. “It’s a paradigm shift in how we approach tea production and consumption.”
