Tesco and Trussell Trust Partnership Supports 29 Food Banks Across UK

Tesco, a British multinational groceries and general merchandise retailer, has partnered with Trussell Trust to provide 730,000 additional meals to food banks across the UK. Food banks across the Trussell Trust network, over the past year, distributed about 3 Million emergency food parcels to people who cannot afford the essentials.

But there has been a 37 percent increase in demand nationwide and food banks are struggling to keep up. As such, Tesco has stepped in with an emergency support scheme Community Food Connection. It ensures that food banks can continue to provide additional support to people in their area. The retailer sees to it that food banks are able to order food directly at no cost and have that fulfilled by Tesco’s distribution network.  The food banks weekly deliveries of vital items for food parcels to meet the needs of the local community.

Emma Revie, CEO at Trussell Trust, highlighted that there has been a 37 percent increase nationwide in the number of food parcels that their network has distributed. “This is putting a significant strain on our network as they are struggling to source enough food to meet this level of need. Tesco’s generosity has been a much-needed lifeline for the food banks that benefitted from this initiative. Not only have the donations ensured that there is enough stock to provide parcels to everyone who needs it, but Tesco’s logistical support has also given food banks a chance to catch their breaths after the toughest winter yet.”

Through Tesco’s distribution network, food banks are able to order and receive weekly deliveries of vital items for food parcels at no cost to them, allowing them to offer additional help throughout the local community.
