Volkswagen has transformed its classic VW Microbus into an all-electric ID. Buzz which goes on sale in the U.S. in 2024. The German carmaker has modernized the vehicle’s retro design.
Pablo Di Si, Volkswagen of America President and CEO, described the zero-direct emission ID. Buzz is the spiritual reincarnation of the Microbus, re-imagined for their electric future. “It is practical, sustainable, and packaged in an unmistakably fun way that is classic Volkswagen. With its launch, the Bus will once again become our brand hero in America.”
The American market ID. Buzz stands out from the European version as it is longer and has three rows of seats. It’s a foot shorter than a Chrysler Pacifica and longer wheelbase that helps create a roomy passenger compartment. Volkswagen said the new van offers a bigger battery, more horsepower, and a longer wheelbase than that of its two-row European vehicle that debuted in 2022.
ID. Buzz features retro design cues, like the oversized VW logo, short overhangs, and available two-tone color palette, meet a tailored interior, cutting-edge EV technology, and advanced driver assistance features. The center console is removable, and the upholder dividers can be used as a bottle opener and an ice scraper. Moreover, the sliding rear doors have small, slide-open windows embedded in them as a call back to the windows on the Microbus.
It also has a digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system display with virtual sliders underneath it for climate controls. Volkswagen ID. Buzz comes with automatic emergency braking and lane-centering adaptive cruise control, and a 30-color ambient lighting system.
It is spacious with an eye-catching style.
