People often find it challenging to travel with their dogs due to logistics and high airfares. But this has now been addressed by BARK Air, a new airline dedicated to dogs and their humans! Dog owners can book flights on Gulfstream 550 private jets – a first-of-its-kind jet charter for dogs.
BARK Air said they have been talking to airlines for years about making flying with dogs more accessible. “Because of their resistance, we decided to build the solution ourselves. The initial launch of BARK Air is only the beginning – our first step in achieving our vision for dog-first travel.” BARK Air partnered with a jet company to meticulously build out an in-flight experience from the ground up. This is focused solely on the comfort and happiness of the dog first, and human second.
“We chose our flight routes based on where we see the most demand today as well as how we can connect parts of the country and the world where driving with your dog simply isn’t a viable option. Listening to dog people and giving them more ways to spoil their dogs is what drives every business decision we make as we further our mission to make all dogs happy, and it will be no different for the next phase of BARK Air.”
The airline will use secondary airports that better accommodate private flights – New York’s Westchester County Airport (HPN), Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport (VNY), and London’s Stansted Airport (STN). Fares start from USD6,000 (USD9278) one-way on the transcontinental US flights – a single ticket includes a seat for one person plus one dog – and USD8,000 one-way on the transatlantic route.
Matt Meeker, CEO and Co-founder of Bark, hopes the prices come down over time. “The current pricing is the most it will ever cost us to operate these flights. If the demand is there, we have ways of lowering those prices.” He believes the market now is bigger compared to 12 years ago.
