Build, speed up and look after the BTC platform: WordPress, custom plugins, SEO and a future data product.
What the role involves
Develop and maintain custom WordPress plugins (PHP 8, custom post types, shortcodes, REST endpoints, WP-Cron jobs) for the Job Board, Agency Directory and Events products.
Build and maintain templates and components in Elementor and the Hello Elementor theme, working from the BTC Observatory design system (Newsreader and IBM Plex Sans, defined colour tokens).
Connect the directories to their Google Sheets database so listings can be updated without manual plugin uploads.
Support the planned BTC Observatory data product on its own subdomain, built on a modern JavaScript stack (Next.js, Supabase, Vercel).
Own page speed: image sizing and lazy loading, deferring and delaying scripts, reducing CSS and JavaScript requests, and tuning Breeze and Cloudflare caching (including HTML caching).
Keep the targets visible: mobile LCP under 2.5 seconds, low and stable CLS, and a cold TTFB that does not time out under light load.
Manage third-party scripts (Google Tag Manager, AdSense, Beehiiv embeds) so they never block the first paint.
Maintain Rank Math settings, canonicals, sitemaps, redirects, noindex rules and structured data (NewsArticle, JobPosting, Organisation) without duplicate or invalid markup.
Set up and check GA4, Google Tag Manager and consent so tracking is accurate and privacy-safe.
Keep WordPress core, themes and plugins updated and tested, with staging first and a rollback ready every time.
Harden the site: login protection, user roles, REST and author-enumeration exposure, file permissions, spam protection on forms (Fluent Forms, Turnstile) and backups that are tested.
Monitor uptime, error logs and cron health, and keep email delivery healthy (WP Mail SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
Work through Git: local build, GitHub, then deploy. Nothing is edited live without a release note.

Experience with Elementor and with caching and CDN layers (Cloudflare or equivalent).
Clear written communication and a habit of documenting what you do.
