Australia Post has introduced “Pip the Koala” as its adorable new national mascot to drive environmental awareness. This coincides with AusPost sealing a three-year strategic partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature Australia (WWF-Australia) to raise awareness about the importance of restoring and protecting koala habitats
AusPost has also launched a Pip the Koala, a plush toy. It’s made from 10 recycled plastic bottles, sold online and at participating post offices. The toy is being sold for $2, and donated to WWF-Australia for koala conservation work.
Catriona Noble, AusPost executive general manager for retail, brand and marketing, said the company has acknowledged its responsibility and opportunity to create a more sustainable future for all Australians. “Our organization touches more communities than any other business in the country and we must do our part to promote environmental awareness. Devastatingly, recent extreme weather events including fires and floods have caused significant habitat destruction, exacerbating the crisis faced by the koala, a quintessential native species.”
Noble said that through their collaboration with WWF-Australia and the new mascot Pip, AusPost will engage and educate Australians about the importance of protecting koalas from the threat of extinction. Tanya Pritchard, WWF-Australia landscape restoration project manager, said there are some key recovery actions needed to save the koala on the east coast of Australia, but further funding is required to ensure that the koala can thrive and not just survive.
She said they are pleased to partner with Australia Post to help turn this around and raise much-needed awareness and funds to protect koalas and their forest homes.
