Adidas – Manchester United Unveil Man Utd x Originals Collection

AdidasThe Man Utd x Originals Collection invokes a feeling of nostalgia as it revisits popular pieces of the sports apparel and footwear brand’s archive and recodes them into football culture. It captures the spirit of the ‘away dry’ and the unconditional devotion of fans who travelled wherever the team went, notably in the 1988 – 1990 seasons. The nine-piece collection offers a fresh take on celebrated legacy pieces, alongside a number of commemorative apparel drops, including a hoodie, t-shirts, and a bench jacket. The Man Utd x Originals Third jersey is the “hero” of the collection, having drawn inspiration from the same legendary kit worn at that time, it is rich in details. The jersey boasts an engineered MUFC jacquard material and a meticulously crafted ribbed collar with red and black detailing on the edges.

It mirrors the original – the Adidas Trefoil, the club’s crest, and wider sponsor iconography of the time, are all raised via a soft textured material applied onto the core fabric of the jersey. Matching shorts, adorned with MUFC script on the side, compliments the shirt. It comes finished in a woven fabric to recreate both the look and feel of those worn decades ago. Moreover, an animated version of Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez sporting the new Man Utd x Originals third jersey will appear on this month’s United We Stand fanzine cover.

Adidas says the collection includes the Man Utd x Bench Jacket. This was inspired by the jacket worn by the manager as he coached from the touchlines. But it has been recreated as a modern shell jacket. The brand also introduced a reinterpreted version of the off-pitch hoodie worn by the players. It comes in bold red, white, and black colorway.

The latest collection was launched on May 15.
