Entertainment powerhouse Disney is celebrating a remarkable milestone, marking its 100th anniversary with the launch of the “Create 100” campaign. To honor a century of enchantment, Disney is embarking on a philanthropic journey with its partnership with the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Create 100, as per Disney, brings together some of the world’s biggest names and most innovative visionaries across fashion, film, music, and art with a common goal – to support the granting of life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The campaign which began on July 28 will see 100 unique items designed by 100 creators, with each piece to be auctioned off for the fund.
Virgil Abloh Securities contributed the first item, an iconic Mickey Mouse character sculpture. It was designed by ALASKA ALASKA. Athiththan “Athi” Selvendran, COO of Virgil Abloh Securities, said they wanted to bring a piece of artwork that was originally created by Virgil himself. “Seeing it come to life this way is such a unique experience, and seeing how far it has come since its inception further proves that Disney is magic.” The sculpture is a 6-foot structure of Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey from Disney’s Fantasia.
Consumer Products, Games, and Publishing president Tasia Filippatos said Disney’s timeless stories and characters have made an indelible mark on pop culture around the world, transcending borders and generations. “We couldn’t think of a better way to honor 100 years of Disney storytelling than by collaborating with this outstanding collective of visionaries to support Make-A-Wish.” There will also be collaborations with renowned artists and designers, from Beyonce to Christian Louboutin, and Lang Lang among others.
Disney and Make-A-Wish have granted wishes together for over 40 years for more than 150,000 children.
