Hublot and Nespresso‘s partnership has produced an iconic and imaginative timepiece using recycled aluminum Nespresso pods and leftover ground coffee beans. The Swiss watch brand designed and constructed a limited edition luxury watch – the Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin.
The lush green shade of the watch depicts the hue of unroasted coffee beans and the coffee plantation, with the sudden appearance of the aluminum from the used Nespresso capsules. The aluminum has been repurposed to create the watch’s case, bezel, crown, and pushers, which comprise its outermost components. The vibrant green and color of the Master Origins Peru Organic Nespresso pod highlight the product’s environmental friendliness.
The Hublot Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin watch is available with a rubber or fabric strap. Both versions are manufactured with coffee grounds. The rubber strap contains 4.1 percent coffee grounds and 8.2 percent recycled rubber. Hublot worked directly for the fabric strap with one of Nespresso’s long-time partners, SINGTEX, which upcycles old coffee grounds to make fabric. SINGTEX uses nanotechnology to create yarn from used coffee grounds – S.Cafe fabric – used for the Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin’s fabric strap.
This is part of Hublot Big Bang‘s line of watches with a special Unico automatic chronograph. It boasts a gorgeous open-heart design pioneered by the Swiss watchmaker itself. The watch showcases the workings of the 354 separate components on its faces. Nespresso’s iconic “N” is engraved on the watch’s crown, symbolising the two companies’ collaboration.
Moreover, the packaging box is made of oak, including the hinges, and is carved from traceable wood. It is reusable, with 98 percent of its detachable inside composed of eco-friendly and recyclable materials. The Greenbox case is made with eco-labeled recycled textiles, plastic yarns, and PET, as well as recycled paper and cardboard.
The Big Bang Unico Nespresso Origin is limited to 200 pieces and is priced $24,000.
