Zest Outdoor Media Shatters Guinness World Record with Solar-Powered Advertising Billboard

Zest Outdoor Media, an Indian out-of-home advertising company focused on sustainability and renewable energy, has installed the world’s largest solar-powered billboard. Verified by Guinness World Records, the massive 84-panel billboard will generate over 300,000 units of solar electricity over the next five years to power railways and promote renewable energy use. A Path-Breaking Idea for Green Energy

Zest Outdoor Media’s quest for innovation and serving society led to the idea of combining outdoor advertising with green renewable energy. In 2019, the company conceptualized the idea of installing solar panels on hoardings. The railways embraced the idea willingly, and it was envisioned as the most unique and largest installation of solar panels on advertising hoardings in the world. To ensure the project became an engineering marvel, renowned engineering institute IIT-Mumbai was roped in to construct 17 hoardings and install 392 solar panels.

A Record-Breaking Achievement

Zest Outdoor Media has been conferred with the title of India Books of Records and Asia Book of Records for installing the largest number of solar panels on advertising billboards. In this project, 40 solar panels were installed on the back of two billboards of size 30 feet x 30 feet each, making it a total of 80 solar panels. The billboards were uniquely placed for maximum electricity generation and advertisement visibility. Each billboard was also designed to be aesthetically pleasing.

Powering Progress Through Solar for a Sustainable Future

Zest Enterprise, touted as world’s first green OOH asset management company, has spent approximately 2.5 million dollars in erecting these 31 solar hoardings in different locations across Mumbai that will continue to generate green energy for the next two decades. The company used approximately 1200 metric tonnes of iron and steel to erect these magnificent hoardings. The solar hoardings are situated in the busiest roads of Mumbai for maximum visibility and reach.

Getting validated by a prestigious international institution like Guinness World Records reinforces our grit to contribute on an even larger scale than we are already doing,” said Zest Outdoor Media founder Mustafa Akolawala. “For now, we are aiming to gain an income of Rs 250 crore in next three years.” He added.

Hyundai Motor India has partnered with Zest Outdoor Media to sponsor the record-setting solar billboard. “We are proud to be a green partner of the OOH site, which has been awarded Guinness World Record, offering this innovative, sustainable and futuristic platform that not only reduces carbon emissions but also promotes renewable energy,” said Virat Khullar, Hyundai Motor India’s assistant vice president of marketing.
