Bing Chat and Bing Chat Enterprises are now simply Copilot to take on competitor ChatGPT. This rebranding comes just days after OpenAI revealed 100 million people are using ChatGPT on a weekly basis.
As such rebranding to Copilot allows Microsoft to position what was once known as Bing Chat alongside the growing library of Copilots across the Office apps and Windows rather than hitching the AI service strictly to Bing.
Caitlin Roulston, director of communications at Microsoft, says renaming Bing Chat Enterprise to “Copilot” reflects their vision to create a unified Copilot experience for consumer and commercial customers. “Copilot will update the commercial terms and conditions on December 1 to reflect that it’s a generally available product from Microsoft. As part of this, it will inherit Microsoft’s universal license terms for online services. Over time, Microsoft will expand eligibility of Copilot with commercial data protection to even more Entra ID users at no additional cost.”

Microsoft is projecting Copilot as the free version of its AI chatbot – Copilot for Microsoft 365 as the paid option. The free version will be accessible in Bing and Windows. But it will have its own dedicated domain, just like ChatGPT.
Through the rebranding, Microsoft is highlighting Copilot as a standalone experience; users don’t have to navigate to Bing to access it anymore. Roulston said Bing is still a big part of Copilot. “Bing remains a prominent brand and technology powering many Copilot experiences while continuing to be a leader in the search industry.”
Users can use Copilot like they use Bing Chat, toggling between creative, balanced, and precise conversation styles, and asking for assistance with tasks like coding, writing, and shopping, etc. It is accessible in Windows in addition to Copilot Microsoft.com and Bing, shipping in a range of Microsoft’s enterprise subscription plans at no additional cost.
