GOD IS WATCHING: Campaign Reminds People Not to Dump Garbage Illegally

The BaoXing Council in Taiwan’s New Taipei City has come up with a creative campaign “GOD IS WATCHING” to address littering. GOD IS WATCHING is an AI-powered device that detects rubbish dumpers and projects a holographic God, reminding people to dispose of their waste correctly.

Kevin Yang, CEO, and COO at Leo Burnett Taiwan, believes most people don’t dump with bad intentions. “Creating a little holographic god was the silliest way we could think of to show BaoXing Council how creativity and technology can make our neighborhoods better.”

The GOD IS WATCHING behavior recognition detector is modeled on Tudigong, the God of  Land – making him the ideal choice. It should be noted that there are hundreds of Gods in Taoism. The campaign creators explained this is a stern but friendly reminder for people not to dump their garbage illegally.

Leo Burnett and Digitas Taiwan launched a pilot program after two months of planning and testing the GOD IS WATCHING Behavior Recognition Detector. It garnered a lot of attention and within three months, illegal waste dropped by 73 percent. Given the campaign’s success, the AI-powered device will be rolled out in more neighborhoods.
