JioCinema Topples Disney+ Hotstar With World Record for Most Concurrent Views to Live Streamed Event

JioCinema has achieved the global record for the most concurrent views of a live-streamed event. The Indian OTT platform toppled Disney+ Hotstar by drawing over 33 Million simultaneous viewers for the finale of the 16th edition of the IPL cricket tournament – Chennai Super Kings vs. Gujarat Titans.

Disney+ Hotstar held the record of 2.53 Million concurrent viewers during India vs. New Zealand semi-final in the ICC 2019 World Cup. JioCinema revealed last Friday that the platform had registered record viewership for the 2023 edition of the Tata IPL 2023, with over 1.5 Million video views in the first seven weeks.

The Mukesh Ambani-led streaming platform said its IPL 2023 presentation and engagement levels have been off the charts. It has been steadily surpassing expectations. JioCinema broke records almost every week through the IPL season.

“The next generation is here, on the pitch and on the digital screen…2.75 Cr viewers together witnessed Shubman Gill’s show, a streaming world record that could just be broken tonight or this coming Sunday!” JioCinema tweeted during the Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians match. Gill, the smasher batsman for Gujarat Titans, made 129 runs off just 60 balls, taking the team’s score to 233 for 3.

JioCinema secured digital rights for IPL for a five-year period until 2027. Its app is offering free streaming of IPL matches to audiences across South Asia.
