Bradford 2025: UK City of Culture, Zayn Malik Ambassador and the Bantams to Feature Logo

The city of Bradford in England is headed for some major changes as it transforms into the UK City of Culture 2025. Former One Director singer Zayn Malik is the face of the city as Bradford 2025 Ambassador. He will be part of some citywide activations and special projects that will celebrate everything that the area has to offer, with a focus on the rich diversity, culture and youth of the city.

Malik, who was born and raised in East Bowling, Bradford, said Bradford is and always will be home for him. “I’ve travelled all over the world but my roots and family remain in Bradford. Now we can celebrate this great city and the people who live and work here with the rest of the world.”

Shanaz Gulzar, the creative director of Bradford 2025, believes the singer’s involvement will help to raise the city’s profile. “In 2024 we’re gearing up for a district-wide cultural programme which will put Bradford on a national and international stage.”

Gulzar added that Zayn’s creative vision and passion for his home town strongly align with their brand values. “Zayn’s involvement, as well as the three special events in 2024, are just a taste of what’s to come in 2025. This is the start – our countdown has begun.”

Daniel Bates, executive director of Bradford 2025, said they have exciting plans to reach thousands of people across the district and nationally to create further excitement and anticipation for what will be a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

“Our people powered the winning bid and through our Volunteer Programme we’re inviting them to play a part in delivering what we hope will be a transformational year for all of us. Along the way, we’re inviting everyone from artists to businesses, from schools to community groups, to help us bring to life a year of culture that could only happen here.”

Bradford City AFC to Carry Wording Below the Crest

Bradford City AFC is also doing its bit to highlight Bradford 2025. The Bantams, as per the official statement, will display the Bradford 2025 on its kits and the Bradford 2025 logo across tickets, social media, the stadium’s big screen and the team coach.

The Love Bradford logo

Ryan Sparks, Bradford City AFC chief executive, said they will be carrying wording with a nod to the UK City of Culture below the crest and on the playing shirts for the next two seasons. “This will be worn with huge pride in what Bradford has accomplished. The new brand looks fantastic and is one we are excited to be working with and implementing across several areas of the club over the coming years.”
